Work exhibited in South Africa
I’m just back from the Decay Without Mourning conference in Stellenbosch, SA, where “/imagine Ronsack” and excerpts from “Not A Soul” were exhibited alongside other artists’ work dealing with decay as a creative force. I delivered a paper on my practice research at STIAS entitled Aura, Decay and the Simulation of Ghosts: A practice research examination of changing media spectrality and AI. It all went really well, and I should be writing this up alongside a bespoke editorial for Herri journal
/imagine Ronsack by Michael C Coldwell, installed at STIAS, Stellenbosch, SA, as part of the Decay Without Mourning conference
Lots of synergy with the work of other artists dealing with decay, ghosts and photographic archives, including work by Nicola Deane and Lizabé Lambrechts
Other resonances - a typology of decaying sculptures, which is also a chronology. This is Echoes in Time (2023) by Marisa Maré
Stocastic and spectral forms emerge as part of vRot performance art piece by Nelisiwe Xaba. Not usually my medium, but this show absolutely floored me. Saw it twice in Stellenbosch.
Beautiful Stellenbosch. Like a dream haunted by a nightmare.
